lol... classic!
Couldn't agree more, "survivor" experience farmers are the pits. Have seen several guides for it even.... /lame
Do it by playing the game, much more challenging! Won't die of boredom as easily...
Anyway, to answer the OP, on the 6 chars I have gotten it (I played the game normally with H&H, questing and doing missions, Masters in most cases, and elite skill capping) I continue to play safely. I don't like dieing too much, my Necro (pre-dating Survivor) has died more than enough times with 3300+

My spear assassin wanted to try and set an all-time record for most experience without dying so she kept going after reaching LS. If it wasn't for the GW:EN siege devourer boss Molotov Rocktail, she would still be undefeated right now. Note: title achieved by actually playing the game (mostly H/H) and skill capping during double exp weekends.
You're probably thinking "Spear assassin? Why not just use a paragon?". Can a paragon get 100%+ to land a critical hit? Didn't think so... but that's a different topic for another time.

Yes, I got mine by doing that and by capping elites (never in double xp weekends; it became a principal not to achieve survivor by that way). I went through every mission in Prophecies, Factions and Elona, without dying. The only mission I didn't do was Imperial Sanctum due to a previous bad experience with my Survivor (1) Ranger that lost his tier (2) because of a unsuspected attack from our friend Shiro that instantly killed me.
Heroes became my new best friends in the game. I'm currently on a PvP Guild, so I became fond with heroes since my guildies don't enjoy PvE. What I ask is: Are any of you doing it through missions and quests with only PUG's? Now that seems more impossible.

lol normal mode isnt that hard anymore when you have 3 games (now 4 with EoTN) of skills to choose from to outfit you and your heros. i have 2 legendaries and working on 3 others just because i may as well try til they die. my first, a mesmer, was done playing the game. finished tyria with masters in all but 3 missions with hero/hench, got to eternal grove and to gate of pain. capped every mesmer/monk skill along the way and tried to do most quests. all but 6 missions that i can remember were hero/henched. none of my guildies wanted to be responsible for my death . the last 200k xp was FFF'd because after 90 hours i just wanted to get it over so i can get on to playing the game. it also got me the first level of kurzick so i could pick up the skills and a few extra amber for armor on another character. she died shortly after in a dungeon in EoTN. my 2nd was also a tyrian born character. a ranger. got legendary by playing up to lutgardis and FFF'ing. i figured what the heck, i could work on 2 titles at once. got up to level 4 kurzick by the time he was done. he died in an over agro doing asuran quests playing through EoTN. his reward for legendary was going to be FoW but settled for Norn once i finished EoTN.

Well hats off to you for your hardcore approach, but really the max I ever got was about 30 in a double XP weekend. This is still only 150,000xp bonus from 1.3mil, so about 10% of what was needed. It's difficult to cap much more than 30 elites in a weekend and still have a life. You still need to do the quests and missions to open up the areas to get the new elites, as well.
So please don't overestimate the extent to which extra XP could be obtained from this.

My survivor character beat all 3 campaigns before dying then finnished UW/FoW a few times with 3 deaths total.
Advice for people, the things that killed me in where:
lord jadoth - first death due to his spear atk.
vengeful aatxe mob - body blocked and had to die to get out.
shadow patrol+abyssal mob - KD locked and killed.

The first time I got survivor I didn't noticed. But it was with a mesmer. So... I just kept playing in a mesmer way. Snare, degen, interrupt. Toing...

First thing I did on my Dervish after L3 was die in an experimental farm run. My Assassin died in AB. Once they've got the title I don't start playing recklessly, I just stop avoiding unnecessary risks.

Just need to know which quests and missions to be extra careful on and which to avoid. On my Dervish I stopped at Eternal Grove in Cantha, Ember Light Camp in Tyria and Dasha Vestibule in Elona. I consider those the general cut-off points where risk exceeds rewards. Just did all quests and missions up til that point and capped any elite skill I could get my hands on. Heroes and Hench did most of the work, though I had to get a friend to help me out with Avatar of Balthazar cap
In general I trust heroes and henchman more than human players. Not because they're bad but because they're only human - attention spans may slip, they may forget to mention there's someone at the door as they walk off, they may suddenly disconnect, etc etc (all of those happened once or twice, though fortunately not while survivoring). I think for those of us who do it the hardcore way, without any FFF, gimmick builds or farming, there's a portion of luck involved. It's hard to pay absolute attention for several days in a row. My Dervish got within about 20% of her health tackling the Mind Burn boss in the Undercity, a risk I would have seen coming had it not been 1am in the morning, and my Assassin almost died when I ran out of an outpost without heroes (fortunately this was outside some low-end town so it didn't hurt too badly).
As for remaking my characters if they die? No way lol, if I've just finished half of the three games with them, I won't re-roll them :P Heck my Dervish L3 was just a mule... I was just too lazy to re-roll her look

i kid you not, i was bored one day, and made a canthan necromancer, got her r1 survivor, then leeroyed a bunch of jade brotherhood. i love that. so much more fun than it sounds. i also added a well-put "LEEEEEROYYYYYYY" into alliance chat. and followed with a "JEEENKINNNSSSS" while lying on the ground dead, watching my henchies get raped.
i respect people who earn this title without simply getting a run to lutgardis and HFF-ing for weeks. dwarven boxing at least has SOME risk.

Got the title on a 2nd char late last night. Took off my armor and went back out, planning to kamakazi into the 1st mob I came across; outside, I realized I was still wielding my vamp bow, so I peacefully degened to death instead.
